Managing Editor, Eighteenth-Century Studies, University of New Hampshire
Applications are sought for a Managing Editor of the academic journal Eighteenth-Century Studies commencing June 1, 2019. Eighteenth-Century Studies is the flagship journal of the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS). Its offices are located at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH, one hour from Boston, MA. The Managing Editor will help set the research agenda for the future of eighteenth-century studies by working with the editor, authors, peer reviewers, advisory and editorial board members, and Johns Hopkins University Press, the journal’s publisher. The Managing Editor will help to design the journal’s issues by surveying cutting-edge work in the field broadly conceived and implementing strategies for attracting new submissions and readers. Responsibilities include office management; receiving and cataloguing all manuscripts submitted to the journal; and overseeing the peer review process, in consultation with the editor. Responsibilities also include editing accepted manuscripts for organization, argument, language, and grammar. The Managing Editor will be expected to maintain a program of scholarly research and is encouraged to participate in the larger intellectual community of ASECS, UNH (including the UNH 18th-Century Interdisciplinary Seminar), and regional academic institutions.
Candidates should possess excellent academic, organizational, and administrative skills, and have experience in editing manuscripts for publication. Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in a discipline within or adjoining the long eighteenth-century period. 40 hours/week with an anticipated salary of $50,000 plus benefits.
